Ben, Harris and I finished our second day of the FIRST LEGO League Organizers Conference in New Hampshire today. We've learned a lot about what other regions are doing and got great ideas about how to improve Maine's program. And we got to see the 2013 Nature's Fury project and robot game!!! But, alas, we can't share that with you for another 76 days! Sorry... But there are some great things to look forward to with this year's challenge and I think you'll enjoy it. We really liked how they are focusing on "Nature's Fury" rather than on natural disasters. It may seem like a small thing, but it is a way to keep our youth looking to learn more about what our world has in store, rather than what happens when nature and people collide. But that is about all I can say so you'll have to wait for the rest. Tom

The 2013 Summer Camp season is really cranking along. All of our camp leaders are back and most of our camp staff as well. We now have 13 of our 30 camp FULL! We've already had to tell some folks "sorry we're full" so don't wait too long. If you find yourself facing a full camp, don't forget that we have wait-lists available on our on-line registration page as well. We have 338 campers enrolled so far... and we are expecting to hit 430 before the camp season is over! We had 11 teams at the Oakland Robot Track Meet this last Saturday and we had a great time. Special thanks to the Messalonskee Middle School for hosting us and to the Infinite Loop high school Robotics Team for volunteering. Our overall Meet Champions were the Robo Falcons from Gardiner with 3 firsts, 1 second, and 1 third place finish (12 points total) and the second place Meet Champions were the Winthrop Ramblers with 3 first places, and 2 third places (11 points total). Awesome job by both teams! The results can be found below, but here are a few highlights: The RoboFalcons (Makayla) had an awesome 2:38 on the robot speed build The RoboFalcons (Riann, Haily, Jared, Kyle) climbed an amazing 77.5 degrees in the slope climber. Team Bazinga (Josh) had three perfect runs in the table clearing competition. The Winthrop Ramblers (Ben, Phillip) blazed over the fastest robot with a 2.308 second run. We had 10 robot ping pong shot putters, including 3 in the independent class! The RoboFalcons and the RoboTigers both had robots in the strongest robot competition that could not only pull the 60 pounds, but one went on to pull 120 pounds and the other a full 200 pounds of weight!
The second of three Maine Robot Track Meets was held at the Ellsworth Elementary/Middle School on Saturday, May 4th. There were 10 teams with 80 students total! Making Ellsworth the largest of the three competitions this year. We were joined by many parents, family members, and volunteers to help make the day a great day. Like track meets everywhere, every 1st place earns a team 3 points; every 2nd place earns a team 2 points; and every 3rd place earns a team 1 point towards the Meet Champions award. With three 1st places and two 2nd places (13 points total) the Ellsworth winners were: - 1st place Meet Champions - the "Break-A-LEGO" team from the Sedgwick Elementary School With two 1st places, one 2nd place, and two 3rd places (10 points total) - 2nd place Meet Champions - the "Charlotte Rockin' Robots" from Charlotte Elementary School and with two 1st places and one 2nd place (8 points total) - 3rd place Meet Champions - the "Ellsworth EMS" team from the Ellsworth Elementary and Middle School.
